Checklist for Import of Vehicles into Canada
MPVs, Minivans, Trucks, Motor homes, Chassis cabs
- Recall of clearance letter
- The vehicle needs to have a valid US statement of compliance label from the manufacturer at importation time.
- After clearance of federal inspection, a Canadian statement of compliance label will be mailed to you by the Registrar of Imported Vehicles.
- If the vehicle is manufactured after 1st April, 1999, cargo capacity label of manufacturer
- Daytime running lights
- French supplementary restraint system labor for airbags requiring periodic maintenance
- Metric odometer and speedometer labels
Passenger Vehicles
- Recall of clearance letter.
- The vehicle needs to have a valid US statement of compliance label from the manufacturer at the time of importation.
- A Canadian statement of compliance label will be mailed to you by the Registrar of Imported Vehicles after clearance of federal inspection.
- Infant restraint kit
- Daytime running lights
- 8 km/hour bumpers
- Valid alpha-numeric(17 digit) VIN
- Metric odometer and speedometer labels(given by inspection center)
- French supplementary restraint system label for airbags that need periodic maintenance.
Trailers
- Recall clearance letter

- Travel trailers only-Manufacturer’s cargo capacity label If manufactured after 1st April, 1999
- The vehicle should have a valid US statement of compliance label from the manufacturer at the time of importation; otherwise a letter of compliance from the manufacturer shall be needed.
- Valid alpha-numeric 17 digit VIN

All Terrain Vehicles
- Recall of clearance letter
- All Lights On(for existing lights)

Motorcycles
- Recall of clearance letter

- The vehicle needs to have a valid US statement of compliance from the manufacturer at the importation time;
- A Canadian statement of compliance label shall be mailed to you by the Registrar of Imported Vehicles after clearance of federal inspection

Buses

- The vehicle needs to have a valid US statement of compliance label from the manufacturer at importation time
- A valid alpha-numeric 17 digit VIN
- The Registrar of Imported Vehicles shall send you a Canadian statement of compliance label through a mail after clearing the federal inspection

- Emergency exits, mechanical and labels
- Metric speedometer and odometer labels(given by inspection center)
- French Supplementary Restraint System label for airbags requiring periodic maintenance
- Cargo capacity label of manufacturer if it is manufactured after 1st April, 1999
